Know a bit about kidney transplantation
Two individuals are involved in kidney transplantation: the donor from whose body a kidney is removed and the recipient (yourself, perhaps) into whose body the kidney is transplanted. The kidney donor may be either:
- Someone who is alive and wishes voluntarily to donate one of his or her healthy kidneys.
- Someone who has just died.
- a man or a woman of any age,
- who suffers from kidney failure that is untreatable by other means,
- who is well enough to undergo a major operation,
- and whose blood group is compatible with the blood group of the kidney donor.
