Emotions

This is a time of extreme emotions.

You will feel great, happy and relieved that your operation is over. You will feel overjoyed when you have your first wee after the catheter has been removed and when you discover that you can eat and drink mostly whatever you fancy.

But you should also expect to have some downers that are a reaction to the years of waiting, anxiety that your operation will be successful and anxieties over your abilities to look after your new kidney.

Don’t worry; these black moments are normal and rarely last for more than a day or so. Just remember that you have life ahead with a new kidney in your body: welcome it, love it and nurture it.
