Going down the pathway of a living donor
You will have chosen this pathway because someone who cares for you has offered to give you one of his or her kidneys. Your living donor will have had their tissue type analysed and matched with yours. It is quite possible many potential living donors in your family have offered their kidneys in which case the one whose tissue type has the closest match to yours is likely to be the one selected as your donor. Information is available from the Living Donor Coordinator for anyone considering donating a kidney for you. What happens next?
Once it has been confirmed that you and your living donor are a good match. A series of tests and consultations will be performed to ensure that you are both suitable. You will be admitted to different wards in the same hospital, and then you will follow the same routine as described above for recipients of a kidney from a deceased donor (go to when the day arrives).
