Why donate?
Today more than 8,000 people in the UK need an organ transplant that could save or dramatically improve their life. Most are waiting for a kidney, others for a heart, lung or liver transplant. But less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year.
Transplants are one of the most miraculous achievements of modern medicine. But they rely entirely on the generosity of donors and their families who are willing to make this life saving gift to others.
Every year hundreds of people die while waiting for a transplant and many others loose their lives before they even get on the transplant waiting list. There is a serious shortage of organs and the gap between the number of organs donated and the number of people waiting for a transplant is increasing.
The Live Life Then Give Life Campaign has been created to raise awareness of organ donation and the chronic lack of organ donors in the UK.
The following section of our website is addressed to anyone who would like to know more about being an organ donor – why it is important, what it involves and how to go about it. For more information click on www.uktransplant.org.uk
